Harmonic Tourism Theoretical and Methodological Model: Application to the Central Highlands of Mexico

YANELLI DANIELA PALMAS CASTREJON Rocío del Carmen Serrano Barquín Jesús Gastón Gutiérrez Cedillo (2018)

The aim of this paper is to present a case of the application of the Theoretical and Methodological Model for Harmonic Tourism, proposed by Palmas et al, (2014), in order to carry out tourism-based planning tasks through the interaction of communities with both vernacular and rational knowledge, which allows for the analysis and management of harmonic tourism as an alternative to sustainable local development. The methodology applied begins with the theoretical and methodological supports that take into account some analysis categories, such as hommo-ecosystem, systemic elements and sub-elements, harmonic tourism, as well as vernacular and rational knowledge. These categories allow integration from a diagram of vernacular-rational touristic planning with the relevant relationships between biophysical and anthropic subsystems about the use of natural and cultural resources. In order to achieve this goal, 374 questionnaires were randomly distributed, as well as 45 in-depth interviews with key actors, visits and continuous field observations, throughout a period of 4 years (2009-2013). The proposed model was applied in San Pedro Tultepec, which includes the Chimaliapan Lagoon, in the municipality of Lerma, State of Mexico, Mexico. The main results include identification and explanation of environmental problems from the perspective of complex systems, consideration of harmonic tourism as a tool to promote local development, and the importance of spreading of information, regarding the tangible and intangible services offered by the Lagoon to the community in order to promote awareness about the rescue of their current resources.

TIEMPOS DE VIDA DE LAS MUJERES EN EL MEDIO RURAL. TRABAJOS DE CUIDADOS Y OPCIONES PRODUCTIVAS EN NAYARIT, MEXICO

EMMA LORENA SIFUENTES OCEGUEDA KARLA YANIN RIVERA FLORES ANA TERESA SIFUENTES OCEGUEDA (2018)

This paper analyzes the theoretical contributions on the distinction between work time and leisure time, with emphasis on care work that has been socially attributed to women. The study draws on three case studies of rural women who have ventured into productive life through different alternatives, such as self-employment or wage labor as agricultural day laborers in the fields of Nayarit, Mexico. The objective is to reveal the forms assumed by the “double feminine presence” with respect to home work and the role that women play in changing family organization in rural areas and in family and community reproduction, with their incorporation into the labor force markets. The local features that characterize these processes in rural Nayarit are highlighted.

Using social media as a tool for assessing citizens perception of regional development dimensions for policy making

Gabriel Puron-Cid José Jaime Sainz-Santamaría Oscar Sánchez Siordia Daniela Moctezuma (2015)

Regional development has enticed the attention from business people, non-profit and international organizations and policy makers at all levels of governments. The main goal of this focus is to fight against regional inequalities and differences. Many methodologies have been used to diagnose multiple dimensions of a particular region in order to conduct analysis and eventually to design or adjust public policies. In general, all these analytical tools have focused on using multiple regional indicators for measuring some development dimensions: income, jobs, housing, education, health, environment, safety, civic engagement, access to services, among others. Today these tools have been advanced due to the improvements of quality of statistical data and the computational power to analyze these data. In spite of these technical and methodological advances, this study claims that these studies are based on data collected using traditional statistical approaches such as census, surveys and questionnaires which are expensive and difficult to implement in various countries. Another limitation is that these methods do not assess citizens’ perception. The objective of this research is to develop an automated tool to assess the perception of citizens about their regional development dimensions by using georeferenced entries in Twitter localized in Mexico. This poster only shows the methodological design of this research, the dimensions and categories to be assessed, and the preliminary results of category of potable water access of the dimension of income/poverty.

CLÚSTER DE MIPYMES PARA FOMENTAR EL DESARROLLO TURÍSTICO DE RINCÓN DE GUAYABITOS, MUNICIPIO DE COMPOSTELA, NAYARIT, 2013

SAMANTHA DE JESUS RODRIGUEZ CASTRO (2014)

Despite having solid diplomatic relations with first world countries, specially United States of America and Canada, Mexico has not been able to reach their levels in terms of

entrepreneurship growth and development, however, Mexico counts with specific conditions which are favorable for touristic activities. Globalization has placed MSME's in a disadvantaged position compared to bigger enterprises speaking about competitiveness, in spite of it, in local environments it is observed that micro, small and medium enterprises lead growth dynamics; touristic MSME's clustering strategy aspires to reduce globalization effects over these enterprises and aid local development.

NADIA VERONICA MELAYES LIZOLA KATIA MAGDALENA LOZANO UVARIO EDUARDO MEZA RAMOS (2015)

Human development and competitiveness, while being independently managed, that is, pursued both with objectives and resources separately in government plans, both are part of efforts to provide better conditions of well-being to the population of a region. Also, seen from a multidimensional approach to development, they are linked by the same systemic goal, which seeks to boost the effectiveness and optimization of local resources, as well as the well-being of society and its territory. Based on this, the links between the process of human development, the phenomenon of competitiveness and the process of local economic development were explained, highlighting the effects that it generates on the levels of competitiveness of the state of Nayarit; In the period of analysis the increase of the levels of the Human Development Index of the population was observed, thus fomenting the economic development of the locality.

In recent years, is detected a growing process of repatriation of migrants who, given the economic situation of the United States of America, have been returned to the State of Nayarit, which shows further growth of tourism activities in Mexico, that could offer them a job to survive with their families. This article shows the results of a sample of 380 returned migrants, including skills, knowledge and competences that favor the possibility of getting inserted in the touristic developments of Nayarit. In addition of that, it was estimated the probability that a migrant could respond effectively to a workforce retention policy, rather than moving back again to the United States from a binary Logit model, detecting regions of the State in which migrants show greater interest in a proposal like that. The work concludes that returned migrants are a specific sector of society, which can be considered as part of the Human Capital with which the regions count, from the perspective proposed by Mincer (1958) and Becker (1964).
