The North Pacific Bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) is a highly migratory specie, it begins its life cycle in the western Pacific, where spends its larval stage and as a juvenile begins transpacific migrations to the California Current system. The objective of this study is to describe the movements of Bluefin tuna within the California Current system in fall 2002-2004. In order to evaluate such movements, continuous data were used from 7 electronic tags, however, the study focused on tag A0481, since it was the only one that reached high latitudes (>41°N) during autumn. Continuous time series were developed for tag A0481 in the higher latitudes for analysis. Depth, visceral temperature and ambient temperature were compared over the years and days using the non-parametric Wilcoxon test. We also tested the correlation between variables by Spearman correlation. The heat increment of feeding (HIF) was evaluated for tag A0481 using the methodology of Whitlock et al. (2013) and reinforced with commercial fishery landings and data from the literature. All tags presented consistent pattern of latitudinal movement over the years, concentrating in low latitudes during the spring, in mid-latitudes during the summer and high latitudes during the fall, whereas in the winter there was large variation when the tunas migrated from high latitudes towards mid and low latitudes. A0481 was associated with frontal zones during autumn, with circular movements, indicating foraging behavior. During the three years of the study the depth and external temperature were considerably different (p<0.001), as this tuna increased in size and thermal resistance. The internal temperature was different between 2002 and 2003 (p<0.001), between 2003 and 2004 (p<0.01), but there was no difference between 2002 and 2004 (p=0.267). However, removing the days of no feeding indicated that there was no difference in the internal temperature among the years. A0481 performed more dives during the daytime than nighttime (p<0.001), with higher internal and external temperature during the nighttime (p<0.001), apparently due to the longer time on the surface. Depth and external temperature were correlated in 2003 and 2004, since the tuna made more frequent dives below the thermocline, allowing greater variation of the external temperature in these years. Depth was correlated to the internal temperature in all years, since the tuna spent much of it time in surface.
