_______________ BIOLOGY OF Tamarixia triozae (BURKS) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) ON Bactericia cockerelli (Sulc) AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES. ABSTRACT: Tamarixia triozae is a solitary and sinovigenic ectoparasitoid of potato psyllid nymphs, the potato psyllid is one of the most important pests of potatoes and tomatoes on the world. The parasitoid may have potential as biological control agent of this pest, but there are not basic research about temperature effects on its biology. We studied under laboratory conditions the biology of T. triozae at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 y 35±1°C (70±10% HR y 12:12 h L:O); we also established the development rate and the population parameters of the species. The life cycle decreased as the temperature increased, the range was from 41.6 to 9.9 d at 10 and 30°C, respectively; 35°C was not viable for completing development. Considering 4.8°C as threshold temperature, 243.5 heat units were required to complete its development. Female longevity was 40.1 d at 15°C and 2.8 d at 35°C. At 20 and 25°C the reproductive life was 26.38 and 29.10 d. The optimal temperature range for host-feeding and laying eggs was 15-25°C. T. triozae feed on 75.5, 89.2, 100, y 24.4 host nimphs at 15, 20, 25 y 30°C, respectively. The bigger net reproductive rate was obtained at 15, 20 and 25°C, generation time was different in each temperature. 30 y 35°C were negative for survival even though at 30°C was obtained the highest intrinsic rate of increase (rm). T. triozae killed 60% more nymphs by host-feeding at 15, 20 and 25°C than at 30°C. Some biology aspects of T. triozae and its potential as biological control are discussed here.
