_______________ EVALUATION OF PRODUCTIVE AND REPRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS IN A DOUBLE PURPOSE SYSTEM PRODUCTION IN TABASCO, MEXICO. ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the productive and reproductive performance of Bos taurus (BT) x Bos indicus (BI) genotypes cattle with in a double purpose system production in humid conditions of Tabasco. The information was obtained from the records for the years 1994-2011, with 491 births and 240 complete lactations from 130 zebu and their crosses with European cows of one productive farm belonging to Uiversity Autonomus Chapingo, located in Teapa, Tabasco. The genotypes included in this study were Zebu, 7/8C1/8H, 3/4C1/4H, 5/8C3/8H, 1/2C1/2H, 5/8h3/8C, 11/16H5/16C and 3/4H1/4C. They were grouped into three categories 0-25%, 37.5-50% and 62.5-75% according to the amount of BT genes. The study variables included birth weight (BW), age at first calving (AFC), calving interval (CI), milk production per lactation (MPL) and duration of lactation (DL). The results indicated that genotype influenced the MPL (p<0.05) and DL (p<0.01), whereas no effect (p>0.05) of BW, AFC and CI was found. The genotype 62.5-75% had the best MPL 1262.80 ± 34.80 kg and DL with 260.31 days. The MPL was 8.09 and 6.56% higher than the 0-25% and 37.5-50% genotypes. Also, the DL exceeded by 41.72 and 33.68 days the some genotypes. In conclusion, under the environmental and management conditions of this study, the genotype with 62.5-75% showed the best growth performance had highest MPL and DL compared to the other genotypes. The reproductive behavior was very similar in the three genotypes studied.
