The annual consumption of sheep meat in Mexico is 99 000 tonnes and imports almost 50%. These missing tons are imported from New Zealand, Chile and Australia, where they have a production subsidy and great forage extensions that are much higher in quantity and quality than the Mexican ones (Arteaga, 2006; De Lucas and Arbiza, 2006). This imported meat is distributed in the domestic market in frozen channel at a price of $ 33.00 and the Mexican channel sells at $ 42.00, where there is a considerable difference in favor of imported meat; Noting that the barbacoyero prefers the Mexican for its flavor; However, others choose the one imported by the less labor involved in buying live animals and slaughtering (Martínez et al., 2009).

El consumo de carne ovina anual en México es de 99 000 toneladas e importa casi el 50%. Estas toneladas faltantes son importadas de Nueva Zelanda, Chile y Australia, donde cuentan con subsidio a la producción y grandes extensiones forrajeras muy superiores en cantidad y calidad a las mexicanas (Arteaga, 2006; De Lucas y Arbiza, 2006). Esta carne importada es distribuida en el mercado nacional en canal congelado a precio de $33.00 y el canal mexicano se vende a $42.00, donde existe una diferencia considerable a favor de la carne importada; señalando que el barbacoyero prefiere la mexicana por su sabor; sin embargo, otros eligen la importada por el menor trabajo que implica comprar animales vivos y el sacrificio (Martínez y Col., 2009).
