The high levels of traffic increase both the noise and air pollution in the city of Guadalajara.
These affects drivers, passengers and pedestrians. The problems involved due to the
current mobility system in the city motivates the research of new types of urban transport,
preferably a low cost electric vehicle. An interesting option to investigate are linear induction
motors (LIM), which have a low number of parts, low maintenance and low cost.
In order to design a LIM, the literature about Linear Motor Design was studied in detail,
specially the Equivalent Circuit Model. The model allows to dynamically simulate a LIM
according to its geometrical and electrical supply specifications.
In this thesis it is proposed to design, simulate and build a prototype to compare the real
behavior and the results of the simulation. The vehicle should be designed to have a low cost
of manufacture, have a capacity of 5-6 passengers, an average speed of 25 km/hr and a road
inclination of 1.15 degrees.
