"Because of feed is the main factor that accounts for the higher costs of production and currently looking for new feed alternatives to improve swine production efficiency, the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of three different levels of zeolite (0, 3 and 6%) in the diet of pigs in three production stages (initiation, growth and finalization) on productive performance (body weight changes, feed intake and feed conversion), blood metabolites levels (cholesterol, creatinine, glucose, total protein, urea) and excretion of nitrogen (N) in the feces. Pigs (n=54) were used, 27 castrated males and 27 females, from commercial crosses: Landrace, Duroc and Hampshire. There were three treatments with three replicates (three males and three females per treatment), for which the animals were randomly distributed sources of variation considered as sex, race and initial weight of which were controlled by blocking. ix The variables evaluated were productive performance (weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion), blood metabolites (cholesterol, creatinine, glucose, total protein and urea) and N excretion in feces. At each stage, record initial and final weight of pigs in order to determine the weight gain. The offered food before being weighed and record, then, weekly rejection was measured to determine feed intake. Feed conversion was determined based on food consumption and weight gain. According to the availability of ingredients and the times in which each repetition was evaluated using two types of diets, in the first two repetitions of the starting phase the provided was sorghum-soybean, while in the third was a corn-soybean. In the growth stage, only the first occurrence was used diet of sorghum-soybean and the final stage was used only diet of corn-soya. A randomized block with sub-sampling helped statistical analysis where the response variables were: weight gain, metabolites and nitrogen of excretion. For feed intake and feed conversion was a randomized block design. For the determination of the analysis of blood metabolites and excretion of N, Blood samples were taken and feces at the end of each stage of two males and two females of each treatment. There were no significant differences (P>0.05) for the variables of weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion. The concentration levels in blood serum glucose, cholesterol, creatinine, total protein and urea showed no significant effect (P>0.05) in the initiation stage, indicating that the zeolite does not affect any of these variables, however in growth stage was found significant (P<0.05) in the case of total protein. We found significant (P<0.05) for urea in the stage of completion. The concentration of urea decreased by increasing levels of zeolite in the diet of pigs, indicating that the x zeolite enables better utilization of nutrients contained in food, especially N. This increasing efficiency of utilization of N in pigs fed diets with zeolite, decreased excretion of N, being significant (P<0.05) in the three stages of production, the most notable decrease was obtained in those pigs given the diet with 6% of zeolite. Zeolite has a wide variety of responses in the feeding of pigs, which depends on several factors, mainly on environmental conditions."
