La contaminación del agua se ha convertido en uno de los problemas ambientales más graves, por lo que es importante atender esta situación en todos los niveles. Algunas de las tecnologías o métodos para minimizar o eliminar los contaminantes presentes en aguas residuales son adsorción, coagulación química, tratamiento biológico (biodegradación), oxidación, entre otras. Debido a que las aguas residuales a tratar se encuentran en grandes volúmenes, para realizar los procesos de decontaminación se seleccionan aquellas tecnologías que resultan ser económicas, factibles y eficaces. La adsorción es una de las tecnologías que se posiciona con gran aceptación, debido a que su amplia gama de aplicación permite reducir significativamente la concentración de los contaminantes. Mediante esta técnica, se puede minimizar la presencia de colorantes y mejorarse el desempeño de procesos secundarios de tratamiento de las aguas residuales.

Hexane Extract of Allium sativum as a Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in 0.5 M H2SO4

The corrosion inhibition of 1018 carbon steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 was conducted by

using an organic extract of natural origin. The evaluation corrosion inhibition activity of

hexane extract of Allium sativum was carried out by electrochemical tests such as

polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Different

temperatures were employed room temperature, 40° and 60° C. The inhibitor

concentrations were 0, 50, 100, 200, 400, 600 and 800 ppm. The organic extract acts

as corrosion inhibitor mixed and efficiency of corrosion inhibition increases linearly

concentration, the major efficiency of corrosion inhibition was up 90 percent used 400

ppm of A. sativum extract at room temperature. The efficiency corrosion inhibition is

affected by temperature increased.

Use of Cynara scolymus as green corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in sulfuric acid

A study on the use of Cynara scolymus (C. scolymus) as a green corrosion inhibitor for 1018 carbon steel in 0.5 M sulfuric acid has been carried out by using weight loss tests, potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. It was found that C. scolymus is a good corrosion inhibitor with its efficiency increasing with the inhibitor concentration but it decreases with an increase in the temperature.

Electrochemical study of the corrosion performance of AISI309 and AISI-310 exposed in NaVO3 at high temperature

Corrosion performance of AISI-309 and AISI-310 exposed in NaVO3 at 700°C was studied using some electrochemical techniques named potentiodynamic polarization measurements and linear polarization resistance (Lp). Measurements of potential in time and mass loss were also obtained. From the physical characterization, it was observed a similar corrosion mechanism for both materials, determining the formation of three different corrosion products layers, which consisted in a concentrated NiO inner layer, a combined layer of Cr2O3-Fe2O3-NiO2, and the molten salt chemically associated with chromium and iron as FeVO4 and CrVO4. Both stainless steels presented a similar type of corrosion attack, a generalized mixed corrosion along the surface, stating that the difference in composition of the two stainless steels seems not to have a relevant significance in the corrosion mechanism.
