"Background: Populus luziarum and P. primaveralepensis are endemic species of western Mexico; growing in riparian forests they are critically endangered. The best way to conserve their seeds is unknown, which could be limiting for their conservation.
Hypothesis: The germinability of both subtropical species is like that of boreal and template Salicaceae species that disperse seeds in spring and early summer, as they germinate quickly with high percentages, and rapidly lose their viability when stored at ambient temperature.
Studied species: Populus luziarum and P. primaveralepensis. Study site and dates: Western Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. Jalisco, Mexico. October 2019.
Methods: The physical integrity of the seeds was assessed by X-ray imaging and compared with germinability. In addition, the effect of storage time (nine weeks) under two temperatures (4 and 21 °C) on the percentage and mean germination rate was evaluated.
Results: No significant differences were found between physical integrity and germination in freshly collected seeds for both species. Germination in the first 24 hrs was 91 and 95 % for Populus luziarum and P. primaveralepensis, respectively (week 0). Germination percentages were lower when stored at 21 °C, but P. primaveralepensis was decreased more slowly.
Conclusions: Seeds of subtropical Populus respond similarly to those of species from temperate and boreal climates with early seed dispersal, a crucial condition for establishing ex situ reforestation and conservation programs."

This article expresses some reflections on the practice of urban muralism and the result of the approach to urban muralism projects or initiatives that have taken place in some cities, towns and villages in the state of Chiapas. This approach has made it possible to describe the dynamics, forms of participation, processes and agents that participate in the configuration and collective expression of urban murals in these spaces. From descriptive ethnography and its tools it was possible to approach the experiences of urban intervention that coexist with the community, in streets, parks, business walls, houses. This has made it possible to understand the practice of urban muralism as an artistic, collective, community process, a project of regeneration or urban recovery and as a practice of symbolic production of incidence in the space where it is implanted, configuring multiple experiences.

Tityus curupi n. sp., belonging to the bolivianus complex, is described from the biogeographically distinct area of Paraje Tres Cerros in north-eastern Argentina. We also present a molecular species delimitation analysis between Tityus curupi n. sp. and its sister species Tityus uruguayensis Borelli 1901 to confirm species integrity. Furthermore, a cytogenetic analysis is presented for these two species which contain different multivalent associations in meiosis, as a consequence of chromosome rearrangements, and the highest chromosome numbers in the genus. © 2017 Ojanguren-Affilastro et al. Dual function of EDTA with silver nanoparticles for root canal treatment–A novel modification
JUAN MANUEL MARTINEZ ANDRADE (2018, [Artículo])
The chelating and antimicrobial capacity of a novel modification of 17% EDTA with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) (EDTA-AgNPs) was evaluated in-vitro for root canal treatment (RCT). The EDTA-AgNPs solution was characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, ?-potential and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Antimicrobial capacity was evaluated against Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus in planktonic and biofilm cells by broth macrodilution (24 h) and XTT assays, (1, 10 and 30 min) respectively. The chelating capacity of EDTA-AgNPs was assessed indirectly (smear layer removal) and directly (demineralizing effect) in bovine dentin at two silver concentrations, 16 and 512 ?g/ ml at 1 and 10 minutes of exposure time. Smear layer removal was evaluated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The demineralizing effect was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), microhardness test (MH) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Synthesized AgNPs were quasi-spherical in shape with an average size of 13.09 ± 8.05 nm. 17% EDTA-AgNPs was effective to inhibit C. albicans and S. aureus in planktonic and biofilm cultures. The smear layer removal and demineralizing effect were similar between 17% EDTA-AgNPs and 17% EDTA treatments. The 17% EDTA-AgNPs solution proved to be an effective antimicrobial agent, and has a similar chelating capacity to 17% EDTA alone. These in-vitro studies strongly suggest that EDTA-AgNPs could be used for effective smear layer removal, having an antimicrobial effect at the same time during RCT.

Study of metabolic biomarkers in the skin related to aging in a population from northwest Mexico
The skin, being the largest organ, is readily accessible for non-invasive sampling, making it a valuable source of biological data that could facilitate the assessment of individuals health status. However, age exerts a central role in nearly all human processes, and if not appropriately accounted for, it could introduce biases when assessing skin condition. Therefore, understanding how age affects skin metabolism is crucial for creating profiles of the types and abundances of metabolites across different stages of human development. This study aimed to uncover metabolic differences in the skin among Mexican subjects of different age groups. To achieve this, surface skin samples (collected via cotton swabs) were gathered from 75 patients spanning ages 3 to 74. Metabolomic data was obtained through liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS2), while metabolite identification and statistical analyses were performed using comprehensive yet complementary software (GNPS, Sirius, MZmine, Metaboanalyst, among others). After an exhaustive use of comprehensive chemoinformatic tools, a total of 2,529 metabolites (peptidic and non-peptidic) were putatively identified covering diverse chemical classes, such as carboxylic acids and derivatives, fatty acyls, benzene and substituted derivatives, organooxygen compounds, among others. Some metabolites are thought to be synthesized by bacteria. Through logistic regression analysis and covariate adjustment, we identified several metabolites positively and negatively associated with age, some of which were gender specific. The findings of this study include the identification of potential aging biomarkers such as cyclo(Leu-Pro), dethiobiotin, among many others, and the proposal of the major affected chemical classes, including azoles, diazines, and polypeptides. Overall, we have contributed to illuminating the chemical landscape of human skin within a Mexican population, hinting at metabolites that could potentially function as aging and disease biomarkers. Nonetheless, to validate our findings, broader studies involving diverse ethnic groups and larger sample sizes are required.
