_______________ CHILLING INJURY AND FRUIT QUALITY OF GRAPEFRUIT 'RIO RED' SUBJECT TO TEMPERATURE CONDITIONING, WAXING AND METHYL JASSMONATE. ABSTRACT: The effect of applying quarantine treatment (1.5 ° C/17d) approved for control of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata Wied) in grapefruit 'Rio Red' was studied. Because grapefruit is a tropical fruit, it has high sensitivity to refrigeration, which can generate a series of physiological responses (chilling injury), that decrease significantly their quality. That is why we evaluated the efficiency of certain technologies that mitigate chilling injury and preserve fruit quality after being subjected to low temperature treatments for their storage or transportation. The technologies were evaluated: Fruit conditioning at 17 ° C for 7 days, surface coatings based on wax (fruits treated with a commercial wax containing 14% solids) and chemical treatments with 10-3 M Methyl Jasmonate in dissolved form, enclosed in hermetic chamber for 24h. The fruits subjected to quarantine treatment were stored at 9 ° C for eight to complete a cooling period of 21 and 25 days. The results show that in general fruit internal quality (TSS, Titratable Acidity and maturation index) was not affected by the quarantine treatment, except in Vitamin C which decreased as much as 50% in all treatments. The Waxing and application of Methyl Jasmonate treatments were the best, reducing the CCI in 30 and 40% with a degree of severity slight. Fruits that received these treatments did not show significant changes in the physiological, biophysical and biochemical properties. The conditioning increased weight loss and texture in fruits, which generated a decrease in external quality. The results confirm that the application of technologies to mitigate chilling injury pretreatment transit quarantine to export grapefruit 'Rio Red' can be considered feasible for marketing purposes.

Design, measurement and analysis of a knowledge management model in the context of a Mexican University

GIBRAN RIVERA GONZALEZ (2016)

"The paper aims to design and apply a Knowledge Management KM, model within the context of a Higher Education HE, institution in Mexico. The model is composed of six enablers: leadership, culture, structure, human resources, information technologies and measurement, which facilitate the processes of knowledge creation, storage, transfer and application. A 53 question survey applied to thirty six people allowed to evaluate the degree of development and implementation of knowledge enablers and processes. Objectivity, reliability and overall model fit were assessed. The application of the Model serves to highlight the core role that cultural, human and structural aspects play in Knowledge Management processes. Whereas Information Technologies are the least influential to Knowledge Management processes. This paper was limited to examine the perceptions of the Board of Directors of a single university. It is yet to be tested in other institutions. Moreover, the resulting model can be used as an assessment tool in Higher Education Institutions to identify the key elements during a KM initiative as well as to define actions to obtain the greatest benefits from these initiatives."

GERARDO ULISES DIAZ ARANGO (2014)

Retrospective health impact assessment for ozone pollution in Mexico City from 1991 to 2011

OSCAR BORREGO HERNANDEZ Agustin Garcia MARIO MIGUEL OJEDA RAMIREZ MANUEL SUAREZ LASTRA (2014)

Air pollution is the main environmental issue in Mexico City, where ozone is one of the most damaging pollutants for human health. In this work we present a retrospective health impact assessment (HIA) study split up by age groups for evaluating the benefits of ozone regulatory strategies from 1991 to 2011 in Mexico City. Since people move from one place to another during the day, which may affect their potential exposure to pollutants, we consider time-dependant spatial population distributions during the day. Ozone data is made up of observations taken with hourly frequency from January 1, 1991 to December 31, 2011, at approximately 22 stations of the monitoring network of Mexico City. Interpolated values for unknown locations are also taken into accountin the HIA. The Cressman objective analysis method is applied for interpolating the observed ozone concentrationsfrom monitoring stations to grids of convenient resolution. We demonstrate that different age groupspresent different spatial patterns of exposure, being the working-age people (between 18 and 64 years) the mostbenefited. We also confirm the hypothesis that, in general, people move to less polluted regions during the day.

Our turn. An evaluation of the turn to the practice based approach in information science

GIBRAN RIVERA GONZALEZ (2013)

"The paper evaluates the turn to practice in information science, through a summary of the theory and exploration of empirical data about the use of collaborative software. Themes of practice theory, namely: change, socio- materiality, relational thinking and knowing are summarised and previous use of practice based approaches to studying the adoption of information technologies are discussed. The empirical data is thirty interviews with Human Resource professionals involved in a project in a large Mexican University. The strength of the analysis using the practice based approach is to dee- pen our understanding of context emerge from an analysis of the data. The sociology of translation can be used to further deepen understanding of the political process around the project. Remaining issues point to a major issue with practice based approaches, namely the adequacy of its treatment of structural power."
