Uno de los fenómenos más frecuentes en los cuerpos de agua eutróficos, es la presencia de cianobacterias capaces de producir cianotoxinas. En México, se han reportado florecimientos de cianobacterias en varios estados de la república mexicana, así como en diferentes cuerpos de agua en la Ciudad de México. En el lago de Pátzcuaro, se han observado florecimientos de cianobacterias, por lo que, desde el 2009 a 2011, se obtuvieron las concentraciones de Microcistina - LR, clorofila a y cuantificación de cianobacterias en seis estaciones en el lago, determinándose el riesgo a la salud, de acuerdo a la guía de la Organización Mundial de la Salud.
One of the most common features in eutrophic water bodies is the presence of cyanobacteria which can produce cianotoxins. In several states of Mexico, many events of cyanobacteria blooms have been reported, as well as in different urban water bodies in Mexico City. From 2009 to 2011, cyanobacteria blooms have also been observed in
Pátzcuaro Lake, and in six stations, data of Mycrocistin-LR toxin, chlorophyll and the quantification of cianobacteria were obtained. This information helped to determine the lake’s health risk, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) Guide.

El 21 de julio de 1870 los principales vecinos de la ciudad de León y el cabildo emprendieron las gestiones necesarias para crear una nueva entidad federativa que llevaría el nombre de Estado del Centro, la cual estaría compuesta por ayuntamientos de los estados de Jalisco y Guanajuato. A pe sar de que se trató de un proyecto político que se llevó a cabo en un momento en el que se estaba reconfigurando la geografía política del país, y de que contaba con los requisitos que solicitaba la Constitución de 1857, no logró consolidarse. Sin embargo, su estudio permite acercarse a conocer el proceso de configuración política del territorio.
On July 21, 1870, the main residents of the city of León and the council, undertook the necessary steps to create a new federal entity that would bear the name of the State of the Center, which would be composed of municipalities of the states of Jalisco and Guanajuato. Despite the fact that it was a political project that was carried out at a time when the
political geography of the country was being reconfigured, and that it had the requirements requested by the 1857 Constitution, it failed to consolidate. However, its study allows us to get closer to knowing the process of political configuration of the territory.

Application of spheroidal agglomerates of γ-Al2O3 in the fluoride removal from aqueous medium

En el presente estudio se investigó un adsorbente aglomerado esferoidal de γ-Al2O3 obtenido a partir de pseudoboehmita para la eliminación eficaz de fluoruro de un medio acuoso. Las propiedades superficiales se caracterizaron por diversas técnicas: XRD, fisisorción de N2, FE-SEM/EDS, RMN 27Al, adsorción de piridina por FT-IR, PZy tamaño de partícula. Se llevaron a cabo experimentos en lotes y se compararon con una alúmina activada comercial (AA). El proceso se llevó a cabo a pH 5, 7 y 9, a 25 y 35 ºC. Los resultados experimentales indicaron que los aglomerados esferoidales de γ-Al2O3 eliminan hasta 15 mg/g, con una capacidad de adsorción mayor que AA de 13 mg/g, a pH 5, estudiados a 25 y 35 ºC. El proceso de adsorción de F-en γ-Al2O3 y AA siguió la cinética de pseudo-primer orden y la isoterma de Langmuir. Los resultados muestran un adsorbente eficaz para la eliminación de F-.
A spheroidal agglomerate γ-Al2O3 adsorbent obtained from pseudoboehmite for effective removal of fluoride from aqueous medium was investigated in the present study. The surface properties were characterized by several techniques: XRD, physisorption of N2, FE-SEM/EDS, 27Al NMR, FT-IR Pyridine adsorption, PZ and particle size. Batch experiments were conducted and they were compared with a commercial activated alumina (AA). The process was carried out at pH 5, 7, and 9, then at 25 and 35 ºC. Batch experimental results indicated that the spheroidal agglomerates of γ-Al2O3 remove up to 15 mg/g with a higher adsorption capacity than AA of 13 mg/g, at pH 5, studied at 25 and 35 °C. The F−adsorption processes in γ-Al2O3 and AA followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm. The results showed an adsorbent effective for removal of F−.

Gobernadores. Entrevistas sobre la democratización en Morelos, 1988-2012.

Este libro reúne una serie de entrevistas realizadas en los años 2008 y 2009 a los gobernadores de Morelos correspondientes a los periodos que van de 1988 a 2012 identificados como los “gobernadores de la transición a la democracia” en esta entidad federativa: Antonio Riva Palacio López (1988-1994), Jorge Carrillo Olea (1994-1998), Jorge Morales Barud (1999-2000), Sergio Alberto Estrada Cajigal Ramírez (2000-2006) y Marco Antonio Adame Castillo (2006-2012). La obra es un recuento narrativo- histórico- político de su papel en el proceso de democratización en el estado. El punto de partida es la convulsionada década de 1990, en la que se produjeron los primeros signos reales de apertura, liberalización y, finalmente, de crisis del sistema político estatal. Este proceso condujo a la primera alternancia municipal en 1997 y a la transformación del régimen político que tuvo una duración de setenta años.

On-farm assessment of yield and quality traits in durum wheat

BACKGROUND: Durum wheat is key source of calories and nutrients for many regions of the world. Demand for it is predicted to increase. Further efforts are therefore needed to develop new cultivars adapted to different future scenarios. Developing a novel cultivar takes, on average, 10 years and advanced lines are tested during the process, in general, under standardized conditions. Although evaluating candidate genotypes for commercial release under different on-farm conditions is a strategy that is strongly recommended, its application for durum wheat and particularly for quality traits has been limited. This study evaluated the grain yield and quality performance of eight different genotypes across five contrasting farmers’ fields over two seasons. Combining different analysis strategies, the most outstanding and stable genotypes were identified. RESULTS: The analyses revealed that some traits were mainly explained by the genotype effect (thousand kernel weight, flour sodium dodecyl sulfate sedimentation volume, and flour yellowness), others by the management practices (yield and grain protein content), and others (test weight) by the year effect. In general, yield showed the highest range of variation across genotypes, management practices, and years and test weight the narrowest range. Flour yellowness was the most stable trait across management conditions, while yield-related traits were the most unstable. We also determined the most representative and discriminative field conditions, which is a beneficial strategy when breeders are constrained in their ability to develop multi-environment experiments. CONCLUSIONS: We concluded that assessing genotypes in different farming systems is a valid and complementary strategy for on-station trials for determining the performance of future commercial cultivars in heterogeneous environments to improve the breeding process and resources.

Remote sensing of quality traits in cereal and arable production systems: A review

Cereal is an essential source of calories and protein for the global population. Accurately predicting cereal quality before harvest is highly desirable in order to optimise management for farmers, grading harvest and categorised storage for enterprises, future trading prices, and policy planning. The use of remote sensing data with extensive spatial coverage demonstrates some potential in predicting crop quality traits. Many studies have also proposed models and methods for predicting such traits based on multi-platform remote sensing data. In this paper, the key quality traits that are of interest to producers and consumers are introduced. The literature related to grain quality prediction was analyzed in detail, and a review was conducted on remote sensing platforms, commonly used methods, potential gaps, and future trends in crop quality prediction. This review recommends new research directions that go beyond the traditional methods and discusses grain quality retrieval and the associated challenges from the perspective of remote sensing data.

Weight loss, turning of peel colour from green to yellow and microbial infections are the major postharvest problems of lemon. Lipid-based edible coatings and modified atmospheric packaging (MAP) are effective techniques in maintaining postharvest quality of fruits for long-term storage. With this view, an investigation was conducted for the preservation of green lemon using coconut oil and beeswax edible coating and MAP during storage at low temperature. Physiologically matured lemons were collected and washed with potable water; fruit surface water was removed and then coated with coconut oil-beeswax (90:10) or only coconut oil. After coating, lemons were packaged in MAP or kept in open crates and stored at 12±1 °C and 85±5% relative humidity (RH) for 8 weeks and a week interval, the sampling was conducted. The results revealed that coconut oil-beeswax coating had immense effect on retaining shiny green colour, reducing respiration, weight loss, shrivelling and preserving firmness and ascorbic acid of lemon throughout the storage. On the other hand, MAP mainly helped to retain moisture & firmness and reduce shrivelling. Uncoated lemons kept open lost the highest amount of ascorbic acid and retained only 13.7 mg/100 g that is significantly (p < 0.05) less than the lemons of all other treatments at 8th week of storage period. While lemons coated with coconut oil-beeswax and packaged in MAP was preserved the highest amount (24.2 mg/100 g) of ascorbic acid and there was no significant difference (p < 0.05) with the amount of ascorbic acid content of lemons coated with only coconut oil and packaged in MAP at the last week (8th week) of storage. Hue angle value was 93.4 in uncoated lemons packaged in MAP while it was 113.67 in coconut oil-beeswax coated lemon kept open and 112.64 in lemon coated with coconut oil-beeswax and packaged in MAP at 8th week of storage. Based on all sensory, physical and chemical parameters uncoated lemons kept open was acceptable up to 1 week, coconut oil-beeswax coated lemon kept open was 6 weeks and coconut oil-beeswax coated lemon packaged in MAP was 8 weeks with good quality and shiny green colour.

"Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) is a crop with great potential for exportation and is very important for its antioxidant properties. However, this fruit is susceptible to different factors of deterioration and attack by pathogens. Botrytis cinerea is the main cause of post-harvest losses in this crop. Antagonistic yeasts from the Debaryomyces hansenii species, which is of marine origin, have been proposed as an alternative method for fungal control. For this reason, this study evaluated the in vitro and in vivo antagonistic capacity of the yeast against B. cinerea. The in vitro growth of the fungus was inhibited by 90% and germination was reduced by 100%, and through the production of volatile organic compounds, the growth of the pathogen was inhibited by 32.5%. Photographic evidence by electron microscopy revealed the effects caused by D. hansenii on B. cinerea. The incidence study showed a 50% reduction in the incidence of the disease caused by B. cinerea in blueberries, while quality parameters—such as soluble solids, titratable acidity, and pH—presented stable values, delaying the maturation process of the fruits. Likewise, the rate of reduction in firmness and physiological weight loss was lower, and the blueberries preserved their quality for a longer time."
