"This thesis presents a novel technique for generating vector beams using complex amplitude modulation (CAM) in an on-axis configuration. The holograms used to generate the beams were created using the Mathlab software and displayed on a reflective spatial light modulator (SLM). The main goal of this research was to address both the purity and stability of the beams during generation and propagation, introducing a quantitative approach to assess their stability. As a proof-of-concept, Laguerre-Gaussian vector beams have been generated and characterized using Stokes polarimetry with the proposed experimental set up."

Context: Wheat crop growth models from all over the world have been calibrated on the Groot and Verberne (1991) data set, collected between 1982 and 1984 in the Netherlands, in at least 28 published studies to date including various recent ones. However, the recent use of this data set for calibration of potential yield is questionable as actual Dutch winter wheat yields increased by 3.1 Mg ha-1 over the period 1984 – 2015. A new comprehensive set of winter wheat experiments, suitable for crop model calibration, was conducted in Wageningen during the growing seasons of 2013–2014 and of 2014–2015. Objective: The present study aimed to quantify the change of winter wheat variety traits between 1984 and 2015 and to examine which of the identified traits explained the increase in wheat yield most. Methods: PCSE-LINTUL3 was calibrated on the Groot and Verberne data (1991) set. Next, it was evaluated on the 2013–2015 data set. The model was further recalibrated on the 2013–2015 data set. Parameter values of both calibrations were compared. Sensitivity analysis was used to assess to what extent climate change, elevated CO2, changes in sowing dates, and changes in cultivar traits could explain yield increases. Results: The estimated reference light use efficiency and the temperature sum from anthesis to maturity were higher in 2013–2015 than in 1982–1984. PCSE-LINTUL3, calibrated on the 1982–1984 data set, underestimated the yield potential of 2013–2015. Sensitivity analyses showed that about half of the simulated winter wheat yield increase between 1984 and 2015 in the Netherlands was explained by elevated CO2 and climate change. The remaining part was explained by the increased temperature sum from anthesis to maturity and, to a smaller extent, by changes in the reference light use efficiency. Changes in sowing dates, biomass partitioning fractions, thermal requirements for anthesis, and biomass reallocation did not explain the yield increase. Conclusion: Recalibration of PCSE-LINTUL3 was necessary to reproduce the high wheat yields currently obtained in the Netherlands. About half of the reported winter wheat yield increase was attributed to climate change and elevated CO2. The remaining part of the increase was attributed to changes in the temperature sum from anthesis to maturity and, to a lesser extent, the reference light use efficiency. Significance: This study systematically addressed to what extent changes in various cultivar traits, climate change, and elevated CO2 can explain the winter wheat yield increase observed in the Netherlands between 1984 and 2015.

Carbamazepine degradation by visible-light-driven photocatalyst Ag3PO4/GO: Mechanism and pathway
Guanhan Chen Wenyi Dong Hongjie Wang Zilong Zhao Feng Wang Feifei Wang César Nieto Delgado (2022, [Artículo])
"Carbamazepine (CBZ), as one of the most frequently detected pharmaceuticals, is of great concern due to its potential impact on the ecosystem and human health. This study provides an effective approach to remove CBZ by using photocatalyst silver phosphate combined with graphene oxide (Ag3PO4/GO) under visible irradiation. The morphology, composition, and optical properties of Ag3PO4/GO were characterized employing SEM, XRD, and DRS. Graphene oxide could improve the visible-light utilization and promote electron's charge to enhance the photocatalytic performance of Ag3PO4/GO. With the optimal reaction condition of 5.86 mW/cm(2) light intensity, 15-25 degrees C temperature, 5-7 pH, and 0.5 mg/L catalytic dosages, 5 mg/L CBZ could be completely degraded in 30 min, and the apparent rate constant could reach 0.12 min(-1). Additionally, the radical trapping experiments indicated center dot OH and O-2(-)center dot were the main reactive oxygen species employed to eliminate CBZ. The decay pathways of CBZ had been proposed accordingly, and the main product was the low-molecular products. (C) 2021 The Authors. Ontology development for knowledge representation of a metrology lab
RAMON ALBERTO LUQUE MORALES OSCAR HERNANDEZ URIBE ZAIDA ANTONIETA MORA ALVAREZ LEONOR ADRIANA CARDENAS ROBLEDO (2023, [Artículo])
Digital transformation in metrology is impacting the industry, where accurate and fair data are essential to take enterprises to the next level in the digital era. The amount and complexity of information are growing exponentially, and expert knowledge becomes imperative for users to perform measurement tasks and decision-making. This study presents the development of a modular metrological inspection ontology for a metrology laboratory based on the reuse of ontologies related to sensors and units of measurement. Such an ontology considers information about operators and customers (name, telephone number, email) and the linkage to service orders, pieces (length, height, width), measurement strategies (expert notes about measurement procedures and paths), and measuring machines (measuring scope, uncertainty, sensor probe). The proposed solution delivers a digitalized catalog that allows the user to filter records according to the geometrical characteristics of the pieces and recover notes related to measurement procedures and paths for similar cases. The purpose is to promote knowledge sharing and narrow the gap to achieve digital transformation toward Metrology 4.0 in laboratories prepared to offer metrological support.

The current development model's accumulation logic has resulted in the emergence and consolidation of social processes like segregation, leading to differentiated access and availability of urban goods and services among social groups based on socioeconomic, ethnic, or societal standing. The current development model's accumulation logic has resulted in the emergence and consolidation of social processes like segregation, leading to differentiated access and availability of urban goods and services among social groups based on socioeconomic, ethnic, or societal standing. This disparity impacts employment levels, educational performance, urban decay, and environmental degradation. In this context, the article aims to examine the socio-spatial segregation in the access to socio-environmental amenities provided by public green spaces (EVP) in a medium-sized city, specifically Durango, Mexico. The analysis utilizes spatial analysis and statistical methods that involve five variables associated with EVPs: surface area, percentage, number, density, and the socioeconomic level of the population. A spatial pattern of segregation was identified through these variables, resulting in four clusters that impact how the city of Durango is inhabited, produced, reproduced, lived, and constructed.

Geospatial analysis of the distribution of empty spaces located in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas
Claudio Curzio HECTOR DE LA TORRE GUTIERREZ (2021, [Artículo, Artículo])
Reflect about urban empty spaces means looking around all these lots that are distributed in different geographical points of the cities and are characterized because they are still waiting to be built, therefore, they are vacant, and also these spaces are empty in the sense of not provide any function. In this sense, the objective of this article is to present a methodological proposal specially designed to study this type of urban elements from the particular point of view of urban geography and spatial analysis. Specifically, through a series of surveys, both digital and physical, the various urban voids located in the city of Nuevo Laredo were recorded, thereby creating a database that included a total of 3,836 case studies. In this way, using different types of statistical techniques and spatial models, it was possible to obtain and interpret the results, managing to identify exactly what were the main patterns and characteristics of said geographic distribution.

Variación morfológica de las hormigas Myrmecocystus de las dunas costeras de Baja California, México
Morphological variation of Myrmecocystus ants from the coastal dunes of Baja California, Mexico
The Baja California peninsula has isolated coastal dunes on which ants of the genus Myrmecocystus Snelling, 1976 are distributed, whose distribution is restricted in these habitats; The arthropofauna of these dunes is poorly understood. The morphological differences of Myrmecocystus were evaluated from six populations collected along the Baja California peninsula corresponding to six dunes. To measure the morphological differences of the populations, 109 individuals were analyzed, 20 for each dune, except for one dune where only nine individuals were collected. To evaluate intra- and interpopulation shape changes, two morphological-functional structures were analyzed: 1) head, including the clypeus related to competition and feeding, and 2) thorax, including the propodeum, which shows the caste difference between workers. With a fixed camera mounted on a stereoscopic microscope, 198 digital microphotographs were taken to evaluate shape changes through a geometric morphometry analysis. Differences associated with geographic isolation were detected. The variation observed in the head can help to differentiate the populations of the north of the peninsula (Santa Rosaliíta, Punta Mazo, Guerrero Negro, and Punta Abreojos) and those of the south (Las Barrancas and Magdalena Bay), the morphological variation of the thorax did not show significant differences. There are intraspecific variations that could be a consequence of environmental conditions (phenotypic) or random processes such as gene drift. The present study yields data on the morphological variation of six populations representing two species of Myrmecocystus not yet described for the Baja California peninsula. These results will have an impact on the description and a documented increase in the biodiversity of the Baja Californian arthropofauna.

Reef fishes perform important ecological roles in maintaining reef health by cleaning and recycling organic material, and by providing a source of food between trophic linkages. The thesis describes cryptic and conspicuous reef fish assemblages and estimates their spatial and temporal patterns of in two sites, Bahía de Los Ángeles (BLA) in the state of Baja California and Huatulco National Park (PNH), in the state of Oaxaca. We used two sampling methods: visual census using SCUBA (band transects of 4x20m) for conspicuous reef fish (PAC) and enclosed stations (0.4 m2) using clove oil to anesthetize and collect the cryptobenthic reef fish (PACr). Sampling was conducted at two depth strata (shallow; < 5 m and deep; > 5m) and during two seasons (warm and cold). We used species accumulation curves and analysis of effective number of species to describe the richness and diversity of reef fish. Finally, nMDS, PERMANOVAS and SIMPER were performed to determine spatial and temporal patterns. The total species richness was 43 species for BLA and 62 species for the PNH, representing 80% and 79%, respectively, of the average of the non-parametric estimators. The number of species increased to 94 for BLA and 209 for PNH using enclosed stations. Significant differences between seasons and depth strata were found for the PACs assemblage at the BLA site, but not for the PACr assemblage. At the PNH site, significant differences were found for the richness and abundance of the PACr assemblage for depth as well as for the seasonal variation of the biomass of the PACs assemblage. In conclusion we demonstrated that the use of complementary sampling methods improves the quality of species inventories and allows for the detection of both spatial and temporal variations in the structure of the reef fish community.
