Sexual harassment and stalking in female university students: negative emotions and coping with these forms of gender-based violence

Karla Jazmín Rodríguez Hernández ADRIANA RODRIGUEZ BARRAZA Maria Carolina Agoff (2023, [Artículo, Artículo])

Stalking and sexual harassment, as expressions of gender violence in the field of higher education, are very pressing problems as they have been exhibited by the protest movements that have arisen in Higher Education Institutions. The objective of this work is to analyze the narratives of university women who experienced stalking and/or sexual harassment in Higher Education Institutions in the municipalities of Tampico and Ciudad Madero in the state of Tamaulipas. The purpose was to learn about their experiences and their way of dealing with these forms of gender violence, using qualitative research and a phenomenological design. The technique used for data collection was the semi-structured interview. The selection of the informants was based on intentional sampling and the number of cases examined was guided by the saturation criterion, the total number of participants being thirteen. The analysis of the interviews shows that acts of stalking and sexual harassment provoke various emotions in women that can shed light on the problem of violence from the perspective of the victims, instead of considering only their own explanations, which are often rationalized or consistent with socially legitimized meanings. In sum, the study of emotions allows us to conclude that women within the university context suffer from a psychophysical discomfort that does not allow them to live a full university life.

Valeria Alejandra Olivares Olivares (2016, [Tesis de maestría])

Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas. Facultad de Historia. Programa Institucional de Maestría en Historia

In this text, the reader will find a study about public participation of women in the national discussion context, that occurred in the first two decades of the twentieth century in Chile. To get the objective we have chosen two hemerography sources self-styled "women's magazines": the workers paper La Alborada (1905-1907) and the publication of elite La Revista Azul (1914-1918), to approach the discources doomed to 'question feminine', construction of gender identities and processes of significance of women in the framework of the named readjusted of national identities, as a cultural practice. The text has been divided in three chapters. The first look for the study of the relationships found in the 'official'. The second chapter is about the female press production and identity marks that defined the public women affairs. Finally, the third chapter will focus on the discursive representations found in these two cases, by three analytical categories that allow us to understand the mechanisms of participation of women in the nation: instruction, moralizing and motherhood.

Gender parity and socioeconomic representation in subnational legislatures in Mexico: more equitable congresses?

Fernando Patron Katya Rodríguez Gómez (2023, [Artículo, Artículo])

The article analyzes if gender parity in subnational legislatures in México has produced a more equitable social representation. It explores the plurality of gender parity in terms of socioeconomic differences, and female and male representation. Using data from Censo de Poderes legislativos Estatales 2020, the article classifies subnational legislators by socioeconomic levels and compared with CONEVAL’s methodology of social stratification in Mexico. The tested hypothesis is that gender parity has not produced a favorable impact on a more equitable political representation in socioeconomic terms so far. Female and male political representation continues to be dominated by upper socioeconomic levels.

The pedestrian trajectories derived from the barriers of the public space

Amanda Casillas Ana Victoria Casillas Zapata (2023, [Artículo, Artículo])

Walking behavior respond to various factors, both internal and external, the first one is linked to the pedestrian's motivation, and the second one is linked to the opportunity offered by the built environment. The public space in the cities represents the main articulator of pedestrian movements, allowing flexible or fixed types of trips to be carried out. Therefore, those urban spaces that are detached from the network conformed by the pedestrian infrastructure could limit accessibility and alter the paths of travel. This study addresses the cases of three neighborhood parks that in recent years have had their configuration transformed by closing their perimeters in a partial or total way; the main objective of this study is to identify the types of pedestrian trajectories that derive from these barriers, as for those who move from within the neighborhoods and those who move from outside. These trajectories were analyzed under a qualitative approach and a descriptive scope. This allow us to determine that the parks, according to their disposition, have the potential to attract or repel the pedestrian movement, whether they were used as a destination or a connection place for displacement. In this way, it was possible to determine that the pedestrian trajectories are conditioned by the reduced permeability of these spaces.

Socio-spatial segregation of socio-environmental assets of public green spaces in the city of Durango, Mexico

Carlos Alejandro Custodio González Tania Ortiz Patricia Catalina Medina Pérez (2024, [Artículo, Artículo])

The current development model's accumulation logic has resulted in the emergence and consolidation of social processes like segregation, leading to differentiated access and availability of urban goods and services among social groups based on socioeconomic, ethnic, or societal standing. The current development model's accumulation logic has resulted in the emergence and consolidation of social processes like segregation, leading to differentiated access and availability of urban goods and services among social groups based on socioeconomic, ethnic, or societal standing. This disparity impacts employment levels, educational performance, urban decay, and environmental degradation. In this context, the article aims to examine the socio-spatial segregation in the access to socio-environmental amenities provided by public green spaces (EVP) in a medium-sized city, specifically Durango, Mexico. The analysis utilizes spatial analysis and statistical methods that involve five variables associated with EVPs: surface area, percentage, number, density, and the socioeconomic level of the population. A spatial pattern of segregation was identified through these variables, resulting in four clusters that impact how the city of Durango is inhabited, produced, reproduced, lived, and constructed.
