_______________ EVALUATION OF RISKS OF PLAGUES AND DISEASES IN CROPS USING REAL TIME CLIMATE DATA. ABSTRACT: The research Project addressed improvements and enlargement of a service operated by the Zacatepec Experimental Station of INIFAP to offer producers of the State of Morelos information regarding phytosanitary risks of diseases and plagues. Objectives included the determination of such risks as well as their diffusion to producers. An information system was designed and implemented to process climate information gathered by a network of agrometeorogical stations in the State of Morelos, operated by INIFAP, to store it in convenient data structures for its use in several applications. The system contains modules to compute risks of diseases as well as the development of plagues. Interested parties can query climate variables at any place in Morelos State indicating its position on a map or specifying its coordinates. Values of the climate variables at that place are obtained through an interpolation of the corresponding values at the nearest stations. The system has the features that enable it to serve any network of such stations or geographic area. It also computes risks of diseases whenever new climate data is available. To divulge these risks, the system offers queries at any place of the state, but also has a register of the crops planted at every location of the producers, so that these can be warned of risks of diseases should they have a crop threatened by the disease. The warnings are sent via SMS or email whenever a new risk is detected. The use of mathematic models using the FLAG technology is a possible future tool to inform producers, so the model concerning the agents in FLAG was developed to obtain up to date information about the variables of the producers’ business contexts. Additionally, the model that computes the physiological behavior of plagues based on climate data of the year analogous to the current year, indicated yearly by the National Weather Forecast Service, was developed.
