Distribución potencial, caracterización morfológica y conocimiento tradicional de Vanilla planifolia J en la región de la Huasteca Hidalguense, México

V. planifolia se considera originaria de México, pero en la actualidad no se tienen registros sobre su distribución ni sobre el germoplasma en el Estado de Hidalgo. Los objetivos del presente trabajo fueron: Ubicar la distribución potencial y factores ambientales que influyen en la misma, identificar la variación morfológica, conocer el manejo tradicional e identificar la etapa del proceso de domesticación de V. planifolia en la Huasteca Hidalguense. El trabajo consistió en ubicar las poblaciones de V. planifolia y en función de su georeferenciacion con 21 variables bioclimáticas se planteó su distribución potencial. En abril se colectaron flores y el labelo se separó para realizar la caracterización; al final se aplicó una encuesta, para identificar la etapa de domesticación y el manejo tradicional que realizan los productores de la Huasteca Hidalguense. Los resultados muestran 22 poblaciones de V. planifolia. El modelo de distribución potencial se validó con un valor de AUC de 0.985, presentó tres áreas de probabilidad de encontrar poblaciones de vainilla, que estuvieron influidas por la precipitación del mes más seco, altitud y cobertura vegetal. Mediante los tres primeros componentes principales (79% de la variación) se obtuvieron cinco morfotipos. Los Morfotipos I y V son los de mayor distribución, y los Morfotipo I y II los de mayor amplitud y tamaño de labelo. Los productores están en las primeras etapas de domesticación por lo que no hay una presión de selección fuerte sobre V. planifolia. El conocimiento de la distribución, la variación del germoplasma y la identificación del manejo tradicional, permitirán proponer estrategias de conservación de V. planifolia en la Huasteca Hidalguense, México. _______________ POTENTIAL DISTRIBUTION, MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF Vanilla planifolia J. IN THE REGION OF THE HUASTECA HIDALGUENSE, MÉXICO. ABSTRACT: V. planifolia is deemed originally from Mexico, but currently there are not records on distribution or on the germplasm in the state of Hidalgo. The aims of this study were: locating the potential distribution and the environmental factors influencing it, identifying the morphological variation, knowing the traditional management and identifying the stage of domestication process of V. planifolia in the Huasteca Hidalguense. The study involved locating populations of V. planifolia. According to their georeferencing with 21 bioclimatic variables its potential distribution was established. In April flowers were collected and the labellum was separated to be characterized; finally a survey was applied to identify the stage of domestication and traditional management carried out by farmers of the Huasteca Hidalguense. The results show 22 populations of V. planifolia. The potential distribution model was validated with an AUC of 0.985 and presented three areas of probability of finding populations of vanilla, which were influenced by precipitation of driest month, altitude and vegetative cover. Using the first three principal components (79% of the variation), five morphotypes were obtained. The Morphotypes I and V are the most widely distributed, and Morphotype I and II of greater amplitude and labellum size. Farmers are in early stages of domestication so there is no strong selection pressure on V. planifolia. The knowledge of the distribution, variation of germplasm and identification of traditional management, will allow proposing conservation strategies for V. planifolia into the Huasteca Hidalguense, Mexico.
