Effects of climate change on water availability for the Usumacinta river environmental flow (Mexico)

Rebeca González Villela Martín José Montero Martínez (2018)

The water availability in the Usumacinta River sub-basin is determined through the analysis of the amount and frequency of precipitation, associated with the quantity, frequency and magnitude of flow regimes (environmental flows). The river is located in south-eastern Mexico. The precipitation of pre-impact (1960–1983) and post-impact (1984–2008) periods was analysed using a climatological mesh database created by CICESE (Center of Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada) cover¬ing the period 1960–2008. For the analysis of flows, the hydrometric information the IHA V7 program was used to define the main trends in the temporal variation of the daily flows of the pre and post-impact periods. A number of several factors such as: the increase in monthly precipitation in the rainy season and a decrease of the precipitation in the dry season in the post-impact period, the significant increase in the number of days with zero precipitation, the increase in the number of days a year with a greater amplitude in the maximum rainfall, a positive tendency of precipitation in rainy season and a signifi¬cant decrease in the dry season; implies that now in the wet period it rains more and in dry season it rains less, indicating that the climate is more extreme, aspects that can be associated with the effects of climate change. Also, torrential rains that can be associated to the changes in the precipitation rates are due to the effects of climatic change. The natural flow shows a slight decrease in the flow during the rainy season, or a significant decrease in the flow rates for some months in the post-impact period. This condition does not coincide with the increase in precipitation for this period and in this part of the basin, a situation that may be related to the anthropic use of the resource. The Usumacinta basin is relevant for the environmental services that it provides.

Comparison of Different Classifiers and the Majority Voting Rule for the Detection of Plum Fruits in Garden Conditions.

Color segmentation is one of the most thoroughly studied problems in agricultural applications of remote image capture systems, since it is the key step in several different tasks, such as crop harvesting, site specific spraying, and targeted disease control under natural light. This paper studies and compares five methods to segment plum fruit images under ambient conditions at 12 different light intensities, and an ensemble method combining them. In these methods, several color features in different color spaces are first extracted for each pixel, and then the most e

ective features are selected using a hybrid approach of artificial neural networks and the cultural algorithm (ANN-CA). The features selected among the 38 defined channels were the b* channel of L*a*b*, and the color purity index, C*, from L*C*h. Next, fruit/background segmentation is performed using five classifiers: artificial neural network-imperialist competitive algorithm (ANN-ICA); hybrid artificial neural network-harmony search (ANN-HS); support vector machines (SVM); k nearest neighbors (kNN); and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). In the ensemble method, the final class for each pixel is determined using the majority voting method. The experiments showed that the correct classification rate for the majority voting method excluding LDA was 98.59%, outperforming the results of the constituent methods.

José Conrado Escobedo Martínez CLAUDIA OROZCO GOMEZ YADIRA MEJIA MEJIA ROSA ISELA ARIAS PACHECO (2020)

Introduction:The changes of aging generate progressive loss of adaptive capacity, produces modifications of autonomy, a situation in which the Elderly (AM) depends on a caregiver to be responsible for attending to their daily needs, a condition that generates overload. Objective:To relate the level of overload of the formal and informal primary caregiver of the AM and its predisposing factors in 2 asylums in Chihuahua. Methodology: Descriptive, correlational and transversal design. Sample of 30 formal and informal caregivers of two nursing homes, chosen for convenience. The Zarit scale instrument is used. Results:56% were informal caregivers. The predisposing factors were caregiver time and day care. 76% were women, average caregiver time of 2.04 years, day care of 11.2 hours. 36% with intense overload. Significant correlation with caregiver-overload time and day-over-care time, significance of 95%. Discussion:Predisposing factors with overload, caregiver time and care time per day, similar results with other studies. Conclusions:Overload has repercussions on the health of the primary caregiver, it is essential to provide care taking into account factors that can be controlled to avoid overload in this group.
