Este estudio se enfoca a la evaluación de la biofiltración como alternativa de desinfección de agua en comunidades rurales. Para ello, se construyen biofiltros en dos configuraciones: rectangular y cilíndrica y de dos materiales: concreto y polietileno de alta densidad. Cabe mencionar que el biofiltro rectangular de concreto ya ha sido reportado su empleo por la literatura, no así el de polietileno. El objetivo es buscar las mejores condiciones de operación con el fin posterior de poder ser transferidas a comunidades rurales. En este trabajo se reportan a detalle, como parte de los resultados, las etapas de construcción de los biofiltros de concreto y de polietileno, ya que el diseño del prototipo es una parte importante para el éxito del proceso de filtración. Otra parte esencial del proceso es la puesta en marcha de los prototipos, en donde es necesario conceder al sistema el tiempo necesario para la formación de la capa biológica. Finalmente, se reportan los resultados referentes a las pruebas de laboratorio que se llevaron a cabo para monitorear la eficiencia de remoción de los contaminantes en especial de los microorganismos patógenos.

In this article, I reflect on the importance of abductive thinking for processes of material and conceptual reinvention in the context of the current public health crisis. Inseparable from the climate change engulfing the planet, this crisis provides the basis for a semiotic revolution. Therefore, I interrogate Peirce’s work without losing sight of my own time and place of interlocution. COVID-19 has brought with it a crisis of representation which, in contrast to that unleashed by the Holocaust and World War II, and to which the Frankfurt School responded, demands responses from the Global South. Beginning from Dussel’s call to defend life as a matter of ethical urgency in the face of its irresponsible objectification within colonial capitalist modernity –which arguably triggered the pandemic–, I trace a “nocturnal map” that registers the present meaning-making crisis, and allows for a reimagining and remaking of the world from elsewhere.

COVID-19 and family participation in school activities.: Teaching experiences around the Learn at Home program

The article analyzes, from the qualitative method, the participation of families and teaching staff of the first cycle of primary education in the state of Chihuahua (Mexico) to carry out the various activities of the Learn at Home program implemented in March 2020 as a response to the resulting health confinement by COVID-19. It is concluded that the participation of families in school emergency situations implies improving the relationship between teachers, families, and the community in the implementation processes of educational programs with greater support to organize study times, take advantage of the different cultural capitals and promote family co-responsibility.
