La cuarentena sanitaria de los últimos dos años (COVID-19) obligó a “rediseñar”, “digitalizar” o “virtualizar” nuestros cursos y estilos de enseñanza en tiempo récord para “adaptarlas” al “formato virtual a distancia” (online). La profusión de comillas en las líneas anteriores tiene la intención de señalar el carácter incierto o erróneo que ciertos términos-fetiche adquirieron en el proceso. Es importante desmitificar esas figuras de la expresión que se elevaron casi al nivel de pseudo-epistemes (presuntamente novedosas) para la enseñanza del Diseño. Ese tema lo abordo con mayor amplitud en una nueva investigación, recientemente registrada en la UAM. En este texto esbozo (en forma algo lúdica) pero seria y breve a la vez, la conveniencia de tal desmitificación y avanzo en el delineamiento de un modelo de la alternancia y convergencia de recursos pedagógico-didácticos síncronos y asíncronos, mediante la tecnología-red digital, como un elemento estratégico para la educación futura en Diseño.

The health quarantine of the last 2 years (COVID-19) forced us to “redesign”, “digitize” or “virtualize” our courses and teaching styles in record time to “adapt” them to the “virtual format” “at a distance” (online). The profusion of quotation marks in the previous lines is intended to indicate the uncertain or erroneous character that certain fetish-terms acquired in the process. It is important to demystify those figures of expression that have risen almost to the level of pseudo-epistemes (presumably novel) for teaching design. I address this topic more fully in a new investigation, recently registered at the UAM. In this text I outline (in a somewhat playful way) but serious and brief at the same time, the convenience of such “demystification” and I advance in the outline of a model of alternation and convergence of synchronous and asynchronous pedagogical-didactic resources, through technology. -digital network, as a strategic element for future design education.

Surviving “Los Sures”: An anthropological reflection on the Nuyoricans lived experiences in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn and the current urban context of gentrification in New York City

The following article presents an anthropological and historical reflection on the Puerto Rican inner-city neighborhood better known as “Los Sures” in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City (nyc). The analysis will explore the contemporary academic discussion regarding the following concepts: poverty, the welfare State, the discourse surrounding welfare recipient’s culture, inner-city living conditions, and the current context of gentrification. Methodologically, the article presents an ethnographic reflection based on fieldwork experiences and interviews conducted on residents of the previous “Los Sures” and still living in nyc. Finally, we present a critical reflection on the poverty, welfare State policy, and shed light on the difficulties faced by Puerto Rican migrants and their struggle to preserve the Puerto Rican legacy in the now nyc and gentrified “Los Sures”.

Chemically modified nanoparticles for enhanced antioxidant and antimicrobial properties with cinnamon essential oil

We explored the potential of different nanoparticles (TiO2, CaCO3, and Al2O3), considering their pure form and modified with cinnamon essential oil (CEO). These materials were characterized using various techniques, including FTIR spectroscopy, XRD analysis, TGA, and SEM. The interaction between CEO and nanoparticles changed depending on the nanoparticle type. Al2O3 nanoparticles exhibited the strongest interaction with CEO, increasing their antioxidant capacity by around 40% and their transfer of antimicrobial properties, particularly against Gram-negative bacteria. In contrast, TiO2 and CaCO3 nanoparticles showed limited interaction with CEO, resulting in lower antioxidant capacity and antimicrobial activity. Incorporating pure and CEO-modified nanoparticles into polylactic acid (PLA) films improved their mechanical and thermal properties, which are suitable for applications requiring greater strength. This research highlights the potential of metal oxide nanoparticles to enhance the antimicrobial and antioxidant capabilities of polymers. In addition, incorporating cinnamon essential oil can increase the antioxidant and antimicrobial effectiveness of the metal oxide nanoparticles and improve the mechanical and thermal properties of PLA films. Thus, these PLA films exhibit favorable characteristics for active packaging applications.

Approaches in Polymeric Nanoparticles for Vaginal Drug Delivery: A Review of the State of the Art

The vagina is a region of administration with a high contact surface to obtain local or systemic effects. This anatomical area represents special interest for government health systems for different sexually transmitted infections. However, the chemical changes of the vagina, as well as its abundant mucus in continuous exchange, act as a barrier and a challenge for the development of new drugs. For these purposes, the development of new pharmaceutical forms based on nanoparticles has been shown to offer various advantages, such as bioadhesion, easy penetration of the mucosa, and controlled release, in addition to decreasing the adverse effects of conventional pharmaceutical forms. In order to obtain nanoparticles for vaginal administration, the use of polymers of natural and synthetic origin including biodegradable and non-biodegradable systems have gained great interest both in nanospheres and in nanocapsules. The main aim of this review is to provide an overview of the development of nanotechnology for vaginal drug release, analyzing the different compositions of polymeric nanoparticles, and emphasizing new trends in each of the sections presented. At the end of this review, a section analyzes the properties of the vehicles employed for the administration of nanoparticles and discusses how to take advantage of the properties that they offer. This review aims to be a reference guide for new formulators interested in the vaginal route.

Variability of Microcirculation Detected by Blood Pulsation Imaging

The non-invasive assessment of blood flow is invaluable for the diagnostic and monitoring treatment of numerous vascular and neurological diseases. We developed a non-invasive and non-contact method of blood pulsation imaging capable of visualizing and monitoring of the two-dimensional distribution of two key parameters of peripheral blood flow: the blood pulsation amplitude and blood pulsation phase. The method is based on the photoplethysmographic imaging in the reflection mode. In contrast with previous imaging systems we use new algorithm for data processing which allows two dimensional mapping of blood pulsations in large object's areas after every cardiac cycle. In our study we carried out the occlusion test of the arm and found (i) the extensive variability of 2D-distribution of blood pulsation amplitude from one cardiac cycle to another, and (ii) existence of the adjacent spots to which the blood is asynchronously supplied. These observations show that the method can be used for studying of the multicomponent regulation of peripheral blood circulation. The proposed technique is technologically simple and cost-effective, which makes it applicable for monitoring the peripheral microcirculation in clinical settings for example, in diagnostics or testing the efficiency of new medicines. © 2013 Kamshilin et al.

El sistema de ecuaciones de Saint-Venant y Richards del riego por gravedad: 2. Acoplamiento numérico para la fase de avance en el riego por melgas

Se presenta una solución numérica monótona para el acoplamiento interno de las ecuaciones de Saint-Venant y Richards en el riego por melgas. La solución de las ecuaciones de Saint-Venant se aproxima utilizando un esquema lagrangiano en diferencias finitas; mientras que para la ecuación de Richards se utilizan elementos finitos para la integración en el espacio y diferencias finitas implícitas para la integración en el tiempo. Se muestra que una discretización de la ecuación de momentum, basada en aproximaciones de las derivadas y los coeficientes mediante ponderaciones en tiempo y espacio, puede generar cambios de monotonía en la vecindad de la cabecera de la melga; asimismo, se muestra que dicha situación no se presenta si se utiliza una discretización basada en: a) las derivadas en el espacio y la pendiente de fricción en una celda de cálculo se aproximan adelante en el tiempo; b) las derivadas en el tiempo se aproximan utilizando una forma ponderada; y c) los coeficientes son calculados en el tiempo anterior.

La mirada de niños con NEE y maestros sobre la participación paterna en su aprendizaje: efectos de una intervención educativa

Esta investigación de corte cualitativo, tuvo como objetivo describir las percepciones que niños con NEE y sus maestros tienen sobre las estrategias de apoyo a su aprendizaje que tienen los padres antes y después de una intervención educativa. Para esto fue necesario, conocer desde la mirada de niños y profesores, las conductas de apoyo que brindan los padres en las actividades escolares a sus hijos y las situaciones que han facilitado o dificultado su involucramiento. Se trabajó con 6 docentes, que tienen en su grupo a uno o más alumnos con NEE y 8 alumnos con NEE de una escuela primaria pública, localizada al poniente de la ciudad de Mérida, Yucatán. En el diagnóstico se encontró que según los maestros, los padres de familia tienen un concepto impreciso de Necesidades Educativas Especiales, lo que repercute en sus expectativas académicas de sus hijos. Profesores y niños mencionaron que entre las principales barreras para el apoyo a sus hijos, se encuentran: su bajo nivel educativo y su comprensión de las tareas, la falta de paciencia, la carencia de información de cómo apoyarlos y la carencia de tiempo debido al trabajo. Se diseñó e implementó un taller para promover su participación, en el cual se consideraba tanto información teórica como experiencias personales de los participantes. Posterior a la implementación del taller los profesores consideraron que mejoró el conocimiento de los padres sobre NEE y coincidieron con los niños en que se mejoró la participación de los padres en el aprendizaje de sus hijos, implementando nuevas estrategias y mostrándose más colaborativos y tolerantes. Sin embargo los profesores destacaron la falta de participación de los padres en actividades escolares y comunitarias.
