This paper develops a device capable of confirming the minimum coverage area on a thermistor by a thermal paste dispensed and cured in the manufacturing process of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors to provide the required fixation in the presence of mechanical shock conditions. Such a device leverages the thermistor’s self-heating effect and the thermal conductivity of the paste to read the voltage drop from the sensor, which translates into paste coverage area. The methodology follows a synthesized procedure to develop equipment and processes, considering an early phase for concept confirmation to demonstrate the feasibility of the device development. In a later phase, the optimal parameters are calculated and set to the device for delivering the corresponding classification of the sensors during the test. Once launched in production, the device demonstrates high effectiveness in screening out the sensors with rejectable paste coverage area on the thermistor.

Sea G = (V, E) un grafo no dirigido. El problema de encontrar un conjunto independiente fuerte en G, es identificar un conjunto S ⊆ V , tal que dados dos vértices arbitrarios de S, éstos estén separados entre sí por el menos tres aristas. Encontrar un conjunto S de tamaño máximo pertenece a la clase NP-Difícil. Por otro lado, el problema de encontrar un conjunto dominante total en G es identificar un conjunto D ⊆ V , tal que cualquier vértice en V tenga al menos un vecino que pertenezca a D. Encontrar un conjunto D de tamaño mínimo también pertenece a la clase NP-Difícil. En este trabajo de tesis se diseñaron dos algoritmos, uno que resuelve el problema de encontrar un conjunto independiente fuerte maximal y otro que resuelve el problema de encontrar un conjunto dominante total minimal. Estos dos problemas son menos restrictivos que las versiones de optimización descritas al principio de este texto y se sabe que pertenecen a la clase P. Los algoritmos diseñados corren en un sistema distribuido, son autoestabilizantes, son tolerantes a fallas transitorias y funcionan para grafos Halin. Los grafos Halin pertenecen a la clase de grafos 2-outerplanares y tienen la propiedad de que se pueden partir en dos subgrafos muy conocidos, un árbol y un ciclo. Los algoritmos propuestos aprovechan la propiedad anterior para disminuir la complejidad de los mismos. Hasta donde tenemos conocimiento, los algoritmos propuestos, que corren en tiempo lineal en el número de vértices, son los algoritmos más rápidos existentes para los problemas del conjunto independiente fuerte maximal y el conjunto dominante total minimal.
Let G = (V, E) be an undirected graph. The problem of finding a strong stable set in G, is to identify a set S ⊆ V , such that given two arbitrary vertices of S, they are separated from each other by at least three edges. Finding a set S of maximum size belongs to the class NP-Hard. On the other hand, the problem of finding a total dominanting set in G is to identify a set D ⊆ V , such that any vertex in V has at least one neighbor belonging to D. Finding a set D of minimum size also belongs to the class NP-Hard. In this thesis work, two algorithms were designed, one that solves the problem of finding a maximal strong stable set and one that solves the problem of finding a minimal total dominanting set. These two problems are less restrictive than the optimization versions described at the beginning of this text and are known to belong to the P class. The designed algorithms run on a distributed system, are self-stabilizing, are transient fault tolerant, and work for Halin graphs. Halin graphs belong to the 2-outerplanar class of graphs and have the property that they can be split into two well-known subgraphs, a tree and a cycle. The proposed algorithms take advantage of the above property to decrease the complexity of the algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed algorithms, which run in linear time in the number of vertices, are the fastest existing algorithms for the maximal strong stable set and minimal total dominating set problems.

El haiku, desde José Juan Tablada, se ha transculturalizado a las formas de la lírica hispánica, de tal manera que se puede apreciar, por ejemplo, el uso de rimas, de tropos clásicos de la retórica o una enunciación del yo lírico en devaneos elegiacos, celebratorios, filosóficos, etc. Sin embargo, el poeta mexicano, Jorge Tenorio, ha buscado acercarse al haiku, no desde la propia retórica hispánica a la que pertenece, evitando rimas, metáforas u otros tropos afines a la tradición iniciada por José Juan Tablada, sino a través de la idea del vacío del budismo zen, que tiene como consecuencia en la conformación del poemario Hondonada (2008) la expresión del tiempo discontinuo del instante, explicado por Gaston Bachelard, la expresión de la insubstancialidad del yo lírico, el origen dependiente de los fenómenos y el mostrar transparente, contemplativo, lo que está sucediendo en ese instante, a través del viaje en la intemperie, a la manera de Matsuo Bashō, como otra forma de asir ser, opuesto al tiempo de la acumulación y la conquista de la morada.
Haiku, from José Juan Tablada, has been transculturalized to the forms of Hispanic lyric, so that one can appreciate, for example, the use of rhymes, of classical rhetoric tropes or an enunciation of the lyrical self in elegiac rallies, celebratory, philosophical, etc. However, the Mexican poet, Jorge Tenorio, has sought to approach haiku, not from the Hispanic rhetoric to which it belongs, avoiding rhymes, metaphors or other tropes related to the tradition initiated by José Juan Tablada, but through the idea from the void of Zen Buddhism, which results in the conformation of the poem book Hondonada (2008), the expression of the discontinuous time of the instant, explained by Gaston Bachelard, the expression of the insubstantiality of the lyrical self, the dependent origin of phenomena and the display transparent, contemplative, what is happening at that moment, through the trip in the open, in the manner of Matsuo Basho, as another way of asserting itself, as opposed to the time of accumulation and conquest of the abode.

La comunicación no verbal desempeña un papel vital en la interacción humana. En el contexto de la interacción humano-robot (IHR), los robots sociales están diseñados principalmente para la comunicación verbal con los humanos, dejando a la comunicación no verbal como un área de investigación abierta. En este trabajo, se presenta una arquitectura flexible y abierta llamada Software Arquitechture for Nonverbal Interaction in Human-Robot Interaction (SANI-HRI) diseñada para facilitar las interacciones no verbales en IHR. Entre sus componentes se encuentra un Cuaderno Computacional P2P basado en navegador web, aprovechado para codificar, ejecutar y compartir programas reactivos. Pueden incluirse modelos de aprendizaje automático para el reconocimiento en tiempo real de gestos, poses y estados de ´animo, empleando protocolos como MQTT. Otro componente clave es un Broker para distribuir datos entre distintos dispositivos físicos, como robots, dispositivos vestibles y sensores ambientales, así como modelos de aprendizaje automático que comprendan diferentes tipos de datos. Se demuestra la utilidad de esta arquitectura mediante tres escenarios de interacción: (i) el primero que emplea la proxémica y la dirección de la mirada para iniciar un encuentro improvisado, (ii) un segundo que utiliza técnicas de visión por computadora para detectar y analizar expresiones faciales y corporales, así como el uso sensores biométricos para obtener datos de ritmo cardiaco durante una rutina de ejercicio, y (iii) un tercero que incorpora el reconocimiento de objetos y Modelos de Lenguaje Grandes para sugerir comidas a cocinar en función de los ingredientes disponibles. Estos escenarios ilustran cómo los componentes de la arquitectura pueden integrarse para abordar nuevos escenarios, en los que los robots necesitan inferir señales no verbales de los usuarios.
Nonverbal communication plays a vital role in human interaction. In the context of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), social robots are designed primarily for verbal-based communication with humans, making nonverbal communication an open research area. We present a flexible, open framework called Software Architecture for Nonverbal Interaction in Human-Robot Interaction (SANI-HRI) designed to facilitate nonverbal interactions in HRI. Among its components it has a P2P Browser-Based Computational Notebook, leveraged to code, run, and share reactive programs. Machine-learning models can be included for real-time recognition of gestures, poses, and moods, employing protocols such as MQTT. Another key component is a broker for distributing data among different physical devices like the robot, wearables, and environmental sensors and also machine learning models. We demonstrate this framework’s utility through three interaction scenarios: (i) the first one employing proxemics and gaze direction to initiate an impromptu encounter, (ii) a second that uses computer vision techniques to detect and analyze facial and body expressions, as well as the use of biometric sensors to obtain heart rate data during a workout routine, and (iii) a third one incorporating object recognition and a Large-Language Model to suggest meals to be cooked based on available ingredients. These scenarios illustrate how the framework’s components can be seamlessly integrated to address new scenarios, where robots need to infer nonverbal cues from users.

Many species of sharks form aggregations around oceanic islands, yet their levels of residency and their site specificity around these islands may vary. In some cases, the waters around oceanic islands have been designated as marine protected areas, yet the conservation value for threatened shark species will depend greatly on how much time they spend within these protected waters. Eighty-four scalloped hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini Griffith & Smith), were tagged with acoustic transmitters at Cocos Island between 2005–2013. The average residence index, expressed as a proportion of days present in our receiver array at the island over the entire monitoring period, was 0.52±0.31, implying that overall the sharks are strongly associated with the island. Residency was significantly greater at Alcyone, a shallow seamount located 3.6 km offshore from the main island, than at the other sites. Timing of presence at the receiver locations was mostly during daytime hours. Although only a single individual from Cocos was detected on a region-wide array, nine hammerheads tagged at Galapagos and Malpelo travelled to Cocos. The hammerheads tagged at Cocos were more resident than those visiting from elsewhere, suggesting that the Galapagos and Malpelo populations may use Cocos as a navigational waypoint or stopover during seasonal migrations to the coastal Central and South America. Our study demonstrates the importance of oceanic islands for this species, and shows that they may form a network of hotspots in the Eastern Tropical Pacific. © 2019 Nalesso et al. Hyperiid amphipod species from the Gulf of Ulloa, Baja California, and the adjacent region (from the shelf break to 200 km offshore) were analyzed to evaluate diversity and abundances. This productive area supports small-scale commercial fisheries, including sand bass (Paralabrax nebulifer), California spiny lobster (Panulirus interruptus), abalones, clams, and others. Strong coastal upwelling events were observed during summer seasons of the period 2002-2008 between Punta Eugenia and Punta Abreojos. The upwelling plumes at Punta Abreojos are transported southward in slope waters bordering the coastal shelf of the Gulf of Ulloa, contributing to the separation of coastal and oceanic regions, and explain differences in amphipod diversity and abundances between both regions. In the offshore region, the most abundant species were Vibilia armata, Lestrigonus schizogeneios, Primno brevidens, and Eupronoe minuta, similar to previous findings in northern regions of Baja California and southern California. However, abundances of these species were lower (10-30 individuals/1000 m3), only reaching 20-50% of abundance levels reported off northern Baja California. In the coastal shelf of the Gulf of Ulloa, amphipods were virtually absent during 2002, 2003 and 2006. However, during 2004 and 2005, abundances of P. brevidens increased (54 and 20 ind/1000 m3, respectively). Moreover, during the late summer of 2007, abundances of L. schizogeneios, P. brevidens, Lycaea nasuta, Lycaea pulex, and Simorhynchotus antennarius increased considerably (261, 39, 31, 68, 416 ind/1000 m3, respectively), indicating occasional utilization of the coastal shelf by pelagic amphipods. Changes in gelatinous populations (medusae, siphonophores, ctenophores, doliolids, and salps) paralleled changes in hyperiid populations, with highest abundances in 2005-2008 in the coastal shelf. Significant correlations of 17 amphipod species with gelatinous taxa, which are often used as host organisms by hyperiid amphipods, suggest that gelatinous presence enhanced hyperiid abundance and promoted the progression of hyperiid amphipods onto the coastal shelf during parts of the 2002-2008 period. © 2020 Bertha E. Effects of geostrophic kinetic energy flux on the three-dimensional distribution of fish larvae of mesopelagic species (Vinciguerria lucetia, Diogenichthys laternatus, Benthosema panamense and Triphoturus mexicanus) in the southern Gulf of California during summer and fall seasons of stronger stratification were analyzed. The greatest larval abundance was found at sampling stations in geostrophic kinetic energy-poor areas (<7.5 J/m3), where the distribution of the dominant species tended to be stratified. Larvae of V. lucetia (average abundance of 318 larvae/10m2) and B. panamense (174 larvae/10m2) were mostly located in and above the pycnocline (typically ∼ 40 m depth). In contrast, larvae of D. laternatus (60 larvae/10m2) were mainly located in and below the pycnocline. On the other hand, in sampling stations from geostrophic kinetic energy-rich areas (> 21 J/m3), where mesoscale eddies were present, the larvae of the dominant species had low abundance and were spread more evenly through the water column, in spite of the water column stratification. For example, in a cyclonic eddy, V. lucetia larvae (34 larvae/10m2) extended their distribution to, at least, the limit of sampling 200 m depth below the pycnocline, while D. laternatus larvae (29 larvae/10m2) were found right up to the surface, both probably as a consequence mixing and secondary circulation in the eddy. Results showed that the level of the geostrophic kinetic energy flux affects the abundance and the three-dimensional distribution of mesopelagic fish larvae during the seasons of stronger stratification, indicating that areas with low geostrophic kinetic energy may be advantageous for feeding and development of mesopelagic fish larvae because of greater water column stability. © 2016 Contreras-Catala et al. Maintenance of Coastal Surface Blooms by Surface Temperature Stratification and Wind Drift

Algae blooms are an increasingly recurrent phenomenon of potentially socio-economic impact in coastal waters globally and in the coastal upwelling region off northern Baja California, Mexico. In coastal upwelling areas the diurnal wind pattern is directed towards the coast during the day. We regularly found positive Near Surface Temperature Stratification (NSTS), the resulting density stratification is expected to reduce the frictional coupling of the surface layer from deeper waters and allow for its more efficient wind transport. We propose that the net transport of the top layer of approximately 2.7 kilometers per day towards the coast helps maintain surface blooms of slow growing dinoflagellate such as Lingulodinium polyedrum. We measured: near surface stratification with a free-rising CTD profiler, trajectories of drifter buoys with attached thermographs, wind speed and direction, velocity profiles via an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, Chlorophyll and cell concentration from water samples and vertical migration using sediment traps. The ADCP and drifter data agree and show noticeable current shear within the first meters of the surface where temperature stratification and high cell densities of L. polyedrum were found during the day. Drifters with 1m depth drogue moved towards the shore, whereas drifters at 3 and 5 m depth showed trajectories parallel or away from shore. A small part of the surface population migrated down to the sea floor during night thus reducing horizontal dispersion. The persistent transport of the surface bloom population towards shore should help maintain the bloom in favorable environmental conditions with high nutrients, but also increasing the potential socioeconomic impact of the blooms. Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an important human pathogen that has been isolated worldwide from clinical cases, most of which have been associated with seafood consumption. Environmental and clinical toxigenic strains of V. parahaemolyticus that were isolated in Mexico from 1998 to 2012, including those from the only outbreak that has been reported in this country, were characterized genetically to assess the presence of the O3:K6 pandemic clone, and their genetic relationship to strains that are related to the pandemic clonal complex (CC3). Pathogenic tdh+ and tdh+/trh+ strains were analyzed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). Also, the entire genome of a Mexican O3:K6 strain was sequenced. Most of the strains were tdh/ORF8-positive and corresponded to the O3:K6 serotype. By PFGE and MLST, there was very close genetic relationship between ORF8/O3:K6 strains, and very high genetic diversities from non-pandemic strains. The genetic relationship is very close among O3:K6 strains that were isolated in Mexico and sequences that were available for strains in the CC3, based on the PubMLST database. The whole-genome sequence of CICESE-170 strain had high similarity with that of the reference RIMD 2210633 strain, and harbored 7 pathogenicity islands, including the 4 that denote O3:K6 pandemic strains. These results indicate that pandemic strains that have been isolated in Mexico show very close genetic relationship among them and with those isolated worldwide. © 2017 Guerrero et al.
