Addressing agricultural labour issues is key to biodiversity-smart farming
Thomas Daum Frédéric Baudron Matin Qaim Ingo Grass (2023, [Artículo])
There is an urgent need for agricultural development strategies that reconcile agricultural production and biodiversity conservation. This is especially true in the Global South where population growth is rapid and much of the world's remaining biodiversity is located. Combining conceptual thoughts with empirical insights from case studies in Indonesia and Ethiopia, we argue that such strategies will have to pay more attention to agricultural labour dynamics. Farmers have a strong motivation to reduce the heavy toil associated with farming by adopting technologies that save labour but can negatively affect biodiversity. Labour constraints can also prevent farmers from adopting technologies that improve biodiversity but increase labour intensity. Without explicitly accounting for labour issues, conservation efforts can hardly be successful. We hence highlight the need for biodiversity-smart agriculture, that is farming practices or systems that reconcile biodiversity with land and labour productivity. Our empirical insights suggest that technological and institutional options to reconcile farmers' socio-economic goals and biodiversity conservation exist but that more needs to be done to implement such options at scale.

Debates contemporáneos sobre la eficacia de los derechos humanos en la globalización
ROBERTO MARTINEZ REGINO HECTOR ALEJANDRO RAMIREZ MEDINA (2023, [Libro])

This article addresses the social rights that Mexican legislation grants to foreigners in the country and presents the results of a hybrid research (documentary and field) that includes surveys conducted on foreign migrants in irregular migratory situations. The findings of these surveys show the expectations that the-se migrants have regarding the benefits derived from human rights to health, education, work, social security, and housing in Mexico and that should be the foundation for the construction of their social rights.

Pioneers of modernity in Ciudad Juarez: Chapel of the Council Seminar
Leticia Peña-Barrera (2022, [Artículo, Artículo])
In this work I refer descriptively to the historical moment in which the Chapel of the Conciliar Seminary of Ciudad Juarez was built and to those who, both bishop and architect, knew how to interpret the canons of the reform of the church that was gestated to build a modern architectural icon. Recognition is given to those people who contributed, through their vision, to defining relevant buildings in the field of modernity and who were ahead of their time: the architect Oscar Sanchez Cordero, the engineer Adolfo Alvarez as a builder and Bishop Don Manuel Talamas Camandari.

Ciudad Juarez from historical sketch of national migration policies
Luis Fernando Noyola Rojas Luis Manuel Lara Rodríguez (2023, [Artículo, Artículo])
The context of migration in the Mexican case and its migration policies are analyzed here, taking the case of Ciudad Juarez as a node of movement and link of said policies; for this, the work is divided into four sections. A historical review of the way of how migration policies, through programs operated by different institutions and spheres of government, have worked through the manifestations of the domestic and international Mexican migration it is proposed. It also serves to contextualize and to understand how they are created and why the objectives they intend to meet are more orientated to immediate problems rather to recognize the complexity of migratory problems, in need of specific policies.

Nolberto Tlacaelel Acosta Pérez (2022, [Artículo, Artículo])
The arrival of the nowadays renamed Manufacturing, Maquiladora and Export Service Industry brought within the formation of a new labor subject in the region: the new proletariat of the north. The proposal of the present article is to identify and describe the specific traits of this working class sub-fraction, by a reevaluation of its meaning, the most relevant socioeconomic indicators which serve to understand it, the political organization chapters that it has undertaken in the past years, and its most characteristic cultural attributes.

Tutoring to novel teachers. A fragment of skylight from the border of Ciudad Juarez
Silvia Gabriela Alvídrez Minora (2022, [Artículo, Artículo])
This article describes and interprets the tutoring of novice teachers in a preschool area of Ciudad Juarez. The study is situated in the interpretive paradigm; It makes use of the ethnographic method and research techniques such as participant observation and interview. The partial results show that tutoring is considered an important process for the insertion and professionalization of new teachers; however, it is mentioned that this enriching relationship is only possible when there is communication between all the people involved in the tutoring, in addition to being open to peer learning.
