38th Elite Selection Wheat Yield Trial

Ravi Singh (2019, [Dataset])

The Elite Selection Wheat Yield Trial (ESWYT) is a replicated yield trial that contains spring bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) germplasm adapted to Mega-environment 1 (ME1) which represents the optimally irrigated, low rainfall areas. Major stresses include leaf, stem and yellow rusts, Karnal bunt, and lodging. Representative areas include the Gangetic Valley (India), the Indus Valley (Pakistan), the Nile Valley (Egypt), irrigated river valleys in parts of China (e.g. Chengdu), and the Yaqui Valley (Mexico). This ME encompasses 36 million hectares spread primarily over Asia and Africa between 350S -350N latitudes. White (amber)-grained types are preferred by consumers of wheat in the vast majority of the areas. It is distributed to upto 200 locations and contains 50 entries.

50th International Durum Screening Nursery

Karim Ammar Thomas Payne (2020, [Dataset])

International Durum Screening Nursery (IDSN) distributes diverse CIMMYT-bred spring durum wheat germplasm adapted to irrigated and variable moisture stressed environments. Disease resistance and high industrial pasta quality are essential traits possessed in this germplasm. It is distributed to 100 locations, and contains 150 entries.

Genomic selection models based on integration of GWAS loci and epistatic interactions

deepmala sehgal Suchismita Mondal Ravi Singh Susanne Dreisigacker (2020, [Dataset])

The potential to integrate consistent associations identified from GWAS as fixed variables in GP models to improve prediction accuracy for complex traits (for example, grain yield) has not been investigated comprehensively in wheat. Here, we untangled the genetic architecture of grain yield and yield stability by haplotypes-based GWAS and epistatic scan of the genome. We then integrated robust and stable associations (and interacting loci) as fixed effects in GP models to investigate the importance of these associations in improving prediction accuracies of the said traits. We concluded that the utility of GP incorporating GWAS results is noteworthy for GY when GWAS results identify significant and robust genomic regions.

3rd Harvest Plus Advanced Nursery

Govindan Velu Thomas Payne (2020, [Dataset])

The Harvest Plus Advanced Nursery (HPAN) contains spring bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) germplasm adapted to ME1 (Optimally Irrigated, low rainfall environment) and ME5 (Warmer area environment) environments. It has 100-200 entries with a single replication, white grain color and distributed to more than 35 locations.

5th Stress Adapted Trait Yield Nurseries

Matthew Paul Reynolds Thomas Payne (2020, [Dataset])

Within the framework of SATYN, two types of nurseries are produced: SATYN series with odd numbers are lines for drought-stressed areas, and SATYN series with even numbers are lines for heat stress conditions. These nurseries have been phenotyped in the major wheat-growing mega environments through the International Wheat Improvement Network (IWIN) and the Cereal System Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) network, which included a total of 136 environments (site-year combinations) in major spring wheat-growing countries such as Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Mexico, Nepal, and Pakistan.

15th Acid Soil Wheat Screening Nursery

Ravi Singh Thomas Payne (2020, [Dataset])

The Acid-Soils Wheat Screening Nursery (ASWSN) contains spring bread wheat germplasm adapted to areas affected by low pH that are predominately in Brazil, the highlands of central Africa, and the Himalayas; the total estimated area is close to 2 million hectares. Disease and stress problems are similar to ME2. However, aluminum and manganese toxicities, plus phosphorus deficiency, are major constraints to production. Red grain is generally preferred, except in the Himalayas. High-level quality is demanded, especially in Latin America.
